Apple iPhone in the business enviroment Print E-mail
Friday, 17 April 2009

We have been using the new Apple iPhone’s 3G since its launch in the UK and have found it to be a very useful tool for day to day business. Also as with all things Apple, the design is very distinctive yet does not sacrifice function as you find on so many new mobile devices. The Apple iPhone is even easy for those with larger fingers.

The screen is a great size with the added flexibility to enlarge the text on the screen as required (although only within certain applications).  The battery is comparable to any PDA device that you may have used in the past, and the internet and connecting to email; both corporate (Microsoft Exchange) and home, was remarkably simple and easy to do.  With the array of applications that are being developed and released, not all for business use; there is something for everyone.

The only real draw backs are that the phone is only available on O2 and that while the contract rates are not bad once the basic price is broken down £35 monthly of which £7.50 is for mobile connectivity (free Internet) the remaining £27.50 for 200mins and 200 texts is certainly not the best deal out there by far. Also some would argue that only having the ability to show the last 200 email messages when using exchange is limiting since the phone has ample storage capacity for your entire mailbox.

However, on saying that, the phone is a remarkable step forward in unifying communications in a device that is easy to use, practical, reliable and upgradeable(through ITunes) .  Although there are PDA, Smartphone’s and a whole range of other devices available at the moment this is certainly up there with the best of them and with the operating system updates being pushed out through ITunes free to your device it should be in your pocket for more than six months before it is no longer capable of doing its job.
